Midge on Facebook

With the myriad of interesting things to work with that I learned about at FETC, I set a goal to join Facebook. My friend Kathy Schrock and her son, who is a student at UConn, took pity on me that I had no Facebook friends and asked me to be their friend. Even for an only child like me who copes nicely alone, I immediately felt lonely (sob!) without that "like mind" online pal.

I do think that social networking is a lot of fun and has changed the way I work with the Web and communicate with others.

I placed a Facebook "badge" at the bottom of my main page so that even if you don't want to join, you can see what Facebook looks like (but I need new friends so I hope you do!). Kathy designed my "South Park" 'toon avatar to resemble me which is pretty accurate, don't you think?

Book Sighting!

Book Sighting!

I just returned from FETC in Orlando where I sighted one of my books being displayed for sale at Teacher Created Resources in the Exhibit Hall. Isn't that cool?

Google Patents

While looking for something at Google, I discovered there is a way to search for patents! My father-in-law, who is over ninety is a retired engineer and a graduate of Brown University in Providence. I knew he held some patents as he told me some years ago when he and I worked on some computer programming tasks together. I didn't know how many and I am sure he will be surprised when I show him what's out on the Internet.

It's fun and I thought you might like to try it so type his name into the Patents search at Google.

Playing Tag with Others: Part Three

People are really fast with this game of tag and since I have been participating in Lucy Gray's Google Earth meme, I will shorten this up in order to get back to work.

3. I am a nail polish addict. There.. I've said it. I am attempting to control my habit with a basket that only hold so much. When I buy a new shade, I must throw out an old one. I don't think there is a nail polish anonymous group I can join.

4. At one point, I starting giving out Tootsie Roll "midgees" to the teachers in my workshops. (Get it?) I have quite a collection of tootsie roll "stuff" and just found a great winter fleece shirt at WalMart to wear while I blog (or to keep me warm at FETC).

5. I am disappointed not to have a new job after getting my Master's. I am wondering where I should look. Ideas are welcome. My goal was to teach one online graduate course. That's not a very big goal. Everyone said I should get this degree so I could teach at a higher level and now it seems I need a doctorate. Right.

I am done playing tag. I guess I am still not good at playing games.

Playing Tag with Others: Part Two

Kathy Schrock tagged me yesterday before I could even finish writing my 5 things! As I sat down this morning to read my bloglines, I discovered that Lucy Gray had not been tagged, so I am tagging her.

I was amused to see that Will Richardson mentioned as one of his five things that he knows he is a descendant of William Bradford. I am also a Mayflower descendant but to John Alden, George Soule and John Howland. If you have one line to a Pilgrim you probably have more.

2. As an undergraduate, I technically failed a required course twice which is probably still considered a "no-no". The course was Organic Chemistry and I sucessfully passed it when given a chance to take it at a different college. Lesson learned? The teacher matters. It was departmental policy to give a standarized test covering both semesters at the end. Probably, this was so science people could focus on research not teaching. The sixties was a terrible time. I learned so much more with my Master's degree!
