But, the dogs were not treated well and after some publicity,
the school children of Cleveland saved their pennies to buy the dogs to live in the local zoo.
Balto died in 1933. His body was preserved and is on display at
the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

Frederick Roth sculpted a statue of Balto that is a symbol of the brave men and sled dogs that saved lives.
The sculpture stands proudly in New York City's Central Park.
It is a symbol of the brave deed of all the sled dogs, mushers, and townspeople done so long ago.
